Largest tire after a lift or leveling kit

Makers state the largest tire as a size tied to conditions: a wheel width, backspacing or offset, a lift height, and whether trimming is needed. ICON lists up to 35x12.50 with minor fender trimming and 25 mm offset wheels on a 2022 to 2026 Tundra, while Rough Country says its F-150 leveling kit allows up to 33-inch tires. Read the number together with the wheel and trim note beside it.

Reading a tire size

Inch (flotation) sizes such as 33x12.50R20 give overall diameter, width and wheel diameter in inches, per General Tire. Nitto defines the first number as overall diameter inflated to maximum pressure and the second as tread width. Metric sizes such as 285/70R17 give width in millimeters, then sidewall height as a percentage of that width, then wheel diameter in inches, per Michelin and General Tire.

To compare them, use arithmetic: overall diameter in inches = width in mm x aspect ratio % x 2 / 25.4 + wheel diameter. For 285/70R17: 285 x 0.70 = 199.5 mm of sidewall; 199.5 x 2 = 399 mm; 399 / 25.4 = 15.71 in; 15.71 + 17 = 32.71 in. Width is 285 / 25.4 = 11.22 in. For 295/60R20: 177 mm x 2 = 354 mm; 354 / 25.4 = 13.94 in; plus 20 = 33.94 in. These are nominal. Superlift states that actual dimensions of a given size can vary considerably between brands.

Why trim, offset and wheel size change the answer

Superlift says trimming normally means the bottom edge of the inner fender shrouds or the lower corner of the front bumper valance, and that deeper backspacing and shorter, narrower tires reduce or remove it. It adds that backspacing greatly affects tire-to-fender clearance when turning and that factory 17, 18, 20 and 22 inch wheels fit back on its Tacoma kit. Zone says tires wider than 295 cannot go on factory wheels on its Silverado kit because of steering knuckle clearance. Rough Country's prep article lists backspacing, offset, brake caliper clearance and fender and inner liner clearance as checks before lifting.

Superlift and Rough Country both say to test fit the wheel and tire before installing. Superlift also says taller tires cause an erroneous speedometer reading, and larger tires affect alignment, braking and steering load. Lift height is a second condition: ICON ties its 35 inch fitment to a lift of 0 to 2.25 inches, and its upper control arm note applies above that.

Find kit rows with their stated tire sizes in the lift and leveling tables. Read lift kit or leveling kit for what each kit type changes and reading a fit chart for how conditions are written. A maker figure is a published statement, not a guarantee for a specific truck.
